John Maxwell: Guidelines For Growth

I recently heard John Maxwell speak on growing in the New Year. Below is an outline of his Guidelines For Growth.

Guidelines for Growth

1. Growth must be Intentional: You don’t grow accidentally, you grow on purpose, you must make a decision to grow in the coming year.

2. Choose the Areas of your growth: Only pick one or two key areas you want to grow in during 2013. Concentrate and focus on those areas to grow in during the coming year. It is impossible for us to grow in all areas.

3. Create a growth Environment for yourself: Surround yourself by others who desire to grow as well.

4. Allow failure to be your Friend: If you are going to grow you have to be willing to fail, you can’t fear it. When we attempt to do things that are new for us we will not get it right the first time. If we fear failure instead of embracing it, it will inhibit our growth. Failure will teach you much if you embrace it as a friend.

5. Value Today – Visualize Tomorrow: Take advantage of the moment you have in front of you today, but also be motivated and excited about what you want to become tomorrow.”The interesting things in life happen just the other side of your comfort zone.” Michael Hyatt

6. Develop Systems to help you grow: establish repeatable practices that enable you to experience growth each day.

7. Be comfortable being Uncomfortable: When we grow we are trying new things we have never done before and this will make us uncomfortable. You have to learn to embrace being uncomfortable in order to grow.

8. Be a River, not a reservoir: Make sure you share with others what you learn as you grow. It will help you continue to grow as well as help those around you to grow.
